We are proud to announce that we are a Licensed EMS Agency and a Recognized Fire and Rescue Department. We have been a Licensed EMS Agency for a while now, but have expanded it to allow us to run more vechicles. Our members have worked hard and put countless hours into training. Below are some explanations of what these mean.
This purpose of this program is to recognize those emergency services that can safely and efficiently perform rescue operations and that have met all the standards as established by the two agencies. At present, there are two disciplines offered through the program, Vehicle and Machinery and Swiftwater/Flood Management.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health (Pa DOH) Voluntary Rescue Service Recognition (VRSR) Program was developed under contract with the Rescue Task Force of Pennsylvania Emergency Health Services Council (PEHSC). As the name implies, the recognition is voluntary - only those services who choose to go "above and beyond" to receive this certification are recognized. The VRSR Program was divided into 3 levels of response:
Participating Department is a program that Commonwealth emergency responders have an opportunity to participate in and be recognized as a certified fire professional at various levels in accordance with nationally recognized and sanctioned Professional Qualification standards. The purpose is to recognize those organizations that support, promote, and encourage their emergency response personnel to voluntarily certify within the Commonwealth's Certification Program administered by the Office of the State Fire Commissioner.
What does this mean? The state of PA does not require formal training in order to become a firefighter. All of our members are put through or have formal training. A majority of our members have Fire Fighter I (FF1) certification with the state of PA and are recognized nationally vial the Pro Board, an internationally recognized means of acknowledging professional achievement in the fire service and related fields. The Participating Department Recogition Programs requires a percentage of members to have this certification in-order to receive this acknowledgement.
A QRS (Quick Response Service) is an entity that is recognized by the Department to respond to an emergency and to provide EMS to patients pending the arrival of the pre-hospital personnel of an ambulance service.
We are always looking for volunteers to help us in the station and to run calls! If you are over the age of 14 years old, and are a resident of Kennedy Township, stop by on Tuesday evenings after 6PM or if you see anyone at the station ask for an application. We will provide all the training you will need and you will get to work with a great group of guys and girls both on and off the emergency scene. Stop by today!
